MIA Seating exec: Work progressing at new plant

Work is progressing at MIA Seating in Union City and chief executive officer Darius Mir hopes the new plant will be ready to start hiring its major labor force by the last quarter of the year.

Mir likened the development to the building of a hotel, saying a hotel can’t invite guests until two to three years into development. “We were fortunate to have a building available, but we needed office space,” he said. Planning for the office was a one to 11⁄2 year study that included selecting an architect, designing the space and hiring a general contractor. Mir said the company was fortunate to hire local contractor Allen Searcy Building Contractor, which accepted the major project in February.
